Mystic Seaport celebrates the maritime history of New England. Known as a museum in America and the sea port is a fun journey through the 19 nautical life.

This is the third installment of the series of popular attractions for New England home with a historical theme. Another in the series are Plymouth Plantation, Mayflower II, and post Sturbridge Village.

Here is what you see and how to get the best out of your trip.

There are three main items on the Mystic Seaport: the historic ships, an authentic harbor village and exhibits, and preservation shipyard

.

SHIPS ...

Whenever I visit the Mystic Seaport I head straight for the Tall Ships in the museum dock. I'm just drawn to these magnificent vessels, and the most popular tour is the Charles W. Morgan - a magnificent example of wooden whaling ship. It made 37 whaling trips from its launch in 1841, before retiring in 1921.

LADunton Joseph Conrad and the other fine patterns of the Tall Ships in the museum collection.

These vessels are themselves worth the trip to Mystic Seaport. However, the other two with a unique and rich history of the Sabino and Emma C. Berry. More later on the Sabino, but Emma C. first launched in 1866, and since then has undergone many changes as a fishing boat and coastal freighter. It is a finely restored and donated to Mystic Seaport in 1969.

ORIGINAL village and exhibits ...

a short walk from the ships is the village exhibits and galleries.

walk through Mystic Seaport village once again stirs the imagination. Most buildings in the village are authentic and moved from other places in New England and the Northeast.

with 46 exhibits will discover a rich assortment of shops, homes and stores. Amble around the shops and discover nautical rope making, rigging, cooperage, a sail loft. And two must-see exhibits include a model of the Mystic River, and Shipsmith shop.

Further down the village to check the galleries and make sure you spend time in both travel and figure exhibits.

three floors of exhibition Voyages celebrates the legacy of America and the sea, and continues to influence our lives in many subtle ways. And across the street the figure of the exhibit, and a wonderful collection of carvings.

Unfortunately, these carvings are bittersweet view. desire for these carvings on ships has dwindled and it has now become endangered art form.

Now wander back to the shipyard area and get ready to be amazed ...

THE PRESERVATION SHIPYARD ...

I do not know about you, but I've always had a healthy fascination for old mastercarft skills, and love to watch people work with them. Many of these skills are lost as the economy of our time, reduce the need for them. Wooden boats are a thing of the past, and so wonderful carpentry and shipwright skills lost over the world.

, but here in this corner of the world they are uniquely preserved.

in the Henry B. DuPont preservation shipyard many of these skills are still practiced to the museum ship in tip top shape.

In the courtyard you'll see the carpenter shops, rigging loft, paint shop, metalworking shop, lumber shed, and old-fashioned sawmill. Nearby is a grocery store records containing vital records used by the museum shipwrights, carpenters and riggers, to maintain accuracy as they work to preserve the ship.

Just across the street from the building DuPont's shipbuilding exhibit. Here you can see the keel of the whaleship Thames, and take a view in detecting many stages of building the ship.

And when you're finally ready to take home 30 or 90 minutes to cruise Sabino steamboat as she travels up and down the Mystic River.

Now that you're armed with this information it is time to set the mainsail, raise anchor and head out to Mystic Seaport to experience all this for yourself.
